12 Days

Seeing an adult experience “The 12 Days of Christmas” for the very first time is my favorite Christmas memory so far of 2013. Last night we went to a community Christmas caroling party with hundreds of other people and literally thousands of free cookies. Three friends from Rwanda were with us.

Sitting next to me was a wonderful woman who travels with the ASANTE children’s choir. As we made our way through that, certainly my very least favorite Christmas song, her laughter began to bubble up until it overflowed into clapping and “Hurrah!” at the end. Her joy was contagious.

Then we got to sing her favorite, and mine, “Joy to the World.”

The limited material means in her life affects her joy not at all.
