Psalm 37:1-19

The Lord has reserved for his own: (1) always having enough because he provides, (2) a standing that is strong in him no matter how difficult life becomes and (3) the heritage of eternity in his presence!

Don’t let the success of spoilers eat away at you;

don’t envy wealth accumulated illegally.

They are as transient as withering grass and cut flowers.

            Continue your confidence in Jehovah, the great I AM,

            and be grateful for his grace that empowers you

            to do what is right.

            Settle down where God puts you

            and in his faithfulness he will provide what you need.

            When you treasure Jehovah

            he gives his desires to your heart;

            then you know they will be fulfilled.

Place your life in the care of Jehovah, continuing confident in him,

and this is what he will do:

He will produce righteousness in you

that is like the light of noonday

and pronounce a favorable verdict over you.

            Rest in peace before the great I AM

            and hope confidently in him.

            Again I say,

            don’t let the success of the wicked eat away at you.

            Release the fury that wants to build up within you;

            it only contributes to your brokenness.

            Remember, the wicked are transient.

Those who acknowledge their need

and place their confidence in Jehovah

will be blessed by him in the land where he places them,

enjoying an abundance of peace.

            Yes, there is great wickedness in the world,

            people determined to harm those who belong to God.

            They are relentless in their hatred.

            God dismisses them with a laugh.

            He knows their unrepentant hearts filled with evil

            will result in their eternal condemnation.

It is far better to be content with what God entrusts to me

than to yearn after ill-gotten wealth.

The Lord will cause me to stand strong in the righteousness he gives

while he causes the wicked to fall.

            The Lord knows what he has reserved for his own:

            always having enough because he provides,

            a standing that is strong in him

            no matter how difficult life becomes

            and the heritage of eternity in his presence!
